In the words of Peter Kay, ‘I like it hot, just not this hot’. The great British summer is as turbulent as ever with soaring temperatures one day and thunderstorms the next!
The trouble in Britain is our homes are designed to keep us warm when the temperature soars, we are usually left tossing and turning all night and sitting in front of fans in a bid to keep cool!
There are a few things you can do to keep cool:
1. Keep the hot air out by closing windows and keeping blinds/curtains shut, if you must open windows make sure there is a through-draft, so air circulates, moving air is cooler than still. At night when the temp is cooler open the windows and give the house a good airing!
2. Insulation might be associated with cold weather, but it also keeps hot air out, make sure the house is well insulated to benefit all year round.
3. Since heat rises, the coolest air in your house is going to be at floor level, so set your fan on the floor and point it upwards. Also, you can leave bowls of ice water around the house to help cool the air.
