How can you convert a loft space with low headroom?
You would love to have a loft conversion, but your existing loft has low headroom? You have not got a minimum of 2.2 metres at the highest point (usually from your floor to your roof ridge).
Does that mean you can’t do a loft conversion? Well, not necessarily, there are ways around it!
Roof Lift – yes, it’s exactly as it sounds, you lift the height of your roof!
Dormer Conversion – adds extra headroom by protruding out of the roof without affecting the existing height of the roof structure.
Hip to Gable Conversion – essentially extends your property by replacing the sloping roof with a vertical wall, also known as a gable. This will then give you adequate space to convert your loft and use it as you see fit.
Relaxed planning laws and permitted development makes it a little easier to carry out these type of loft conversions but it is going to depend on the area and type of house/neighbourhood you are in, get expert advice from the Pawlus design team.
