The Homeowners Alliance has revealed that they’ve seen a sharp increase in the number of newbuild owners reporting serious snags with their homes.

The association, which conducts an annual survey of homeowner satisfaction levels, reported that between 2015 and 2018, the number of customers reporting major defects with their newbuilds went up from 93% to 99%.

Timothy Waitt from Anthony Gold solicitors backs up these figures. In a BBC news report, he said that the severity of these snags are also on the increase.

“I’m not talking about dodgy kitchen units – I’m talking about major structural failings that affect health and safety.”

In his opinion, many of these are due to careless mistakes because building firms were increasingly using people who did not have the proper training, skills or supervision necessary to do the job right first time.
