It’s arguably one of the most famous buildings in the country, the grade 1 listed building is recognised the world over, it is the symbolic heart of our democracy and nation. Can you believe that the first royal palaces on this site were built by King Canute the Great and then Edward the Confessor during the 11th century?

Today the Palace of Westminster is falling apart faster than it can be repaired. Many features have not been renovated since it was built in the 19th century. There is a backlog of repairs estimated at over £1 billion.

The Houses of Parliament Restoration and Renewal Programme said more than 100 surveys will be required to map out in detail the work required to revamp the Grade 1-listed building. At a price tag of at least 12bn,’ it’s one big restoration project!

Do you think it’s too high of a price to pay to save a historical building?
