Will the housing market go into lockdown?
At the time to writing the housing market is still open for business but with talk of increased measures being needed shutting down the housing market seems a logical step.
Estate agents and lenders warn shutting the housing market will render the stamp duty holiday worthless, cause distress and push up prices.
“Although we all understand the reasons behind such a move, closing the housing market once again will have serious consequences for many homebuyers, especially for those in a chain or desperate to move,” says Andrew Montlake, managing director of Coreco Mortgage Brokers.
The stamp duty deadline is looming on the 31st of March, many deals are waiting to complete, any delay could prove a disaster for buyers.
